Home Depot will offer free recycling of compact fluorescent light bulbs
[2008-08-01]

The Home Depot is performing a huge public service by recycling burned out compact fluorescent light bulbs free of charge.

The retail giant recently announced it will take back unbroken compact fluorescent bulbs, or CFLs, at all of its stores in the U.S. It's a significant gesture worthy of praise. Because all CFLs contain small amounts of mercury, which can harm the environment and cause brain damage in humans, the bulbs are not supposed to be discarded with other trash.

With a convenient way to recycle CFLs, there is no longer an excuse for not using compact fluorescents. Unless, of course, you dislike CFLs, want to spend more money on energy or have no interest in reducing your carbon footprint.
